Luciard was always interested in nobility, and although it seemed like a passing phase as a child, he pursued it as he grew up, traveling to get apprenticeships under knights or guards to learn their ways. He thinks the armor and the swordfighting is all very cool, and declaring your loyalty to a certain noble man or king.
As an adult, he works his way up through the ranks and becomes a top royal guard for a small country, to King Azian. It wasn't the best job, having to juggle a lot more responsibilities. There were a lot of weak spots in the castle, and his Captain was not the smartest sima in the bunch, leaving the guards to take control of their own schedules, often taking advantage of the empty rooms with thieir families and taking pay without actually working. Luciard works very hard, and will try to overthrow the Capain, but in the process of preparing, the King burned down the castle and sent away his staff, and his wife.
Being a loyal guard to the king, and having pledged his dedication long ago, he follows the man in his journey to rebuild his country, find his family, and find himself. Though he has no real pay, no real point of being alongside the now ex-King, he finds it rebellious to go against him after all the King has provided for him over the years.
